This past Saturday, June 24th, Azul Airlines successfully inaugurated a direct flight connection between Brazil and Curaçao after months of preparation and eager anticipation.
The weekly flights will be operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft, offering a generous seating capacity of 174 passengers. Departing from BH Airport in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, the flight will take place every Saturday at 1:00 PM, with an estimated arrival time in Curaçao at 6:00 PM. Return flights from Curaçao will depart on Sundays at 8:30 AM, reaching Belo Horizonte at 4:00 PM.
To commemorate the arrival of the inaugural flight, a traditional water salute welcomed the Azul Airlines airplane in Curaçao. The ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed guests and dignitaries who eagerly awaited this milestone. During the celebratory event, Mr. Vitor Silva, the General Manager of Network and Strategic Planning at Azul Airlines, delighted the attendees by announcing plans to expand the flight schedule in October and November. Moreover, starting from December 2023, the frequency will be doubled, with flights operating twice a week.
This strategic addition of Azul Airlines flights to Curaçao stems from the rising demand for the island destination that has been observed within the Brazilian market. The newfound connection is poised to facilitate enhanced tourism opportunities, offering visitors a chance to explore the diverse attractions of Curaçao.
During the inaugural flight ceremony, notable figures including Mr. Ruisandro Cijntje, Curaçao’s Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Charles Cooper, Curaçao’s Minister of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning, Mr. Vitor Silva, and Mr. Jonny Andersen, CEO of Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP), addressed the attendees, expressing their gratitude and enthusiasm for this significant occasion. In a gesture of appreciation, Minister Cijntje, Minister Cooper, Minister Martina, Mr. Hugo Clarinda, Deputy Director of the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB), and Mr. Jonny Andersen (CAP) jointly presented Mr. Silva with a commemorative plaque featuring a captivating image of Handelskade.
The Government of Curaçao, together with the CTB, CAP, and Curaçao Airport Holding (CAH), has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Azul Airlines on the launch of its new destination: Curaçao. This landmark achievement is set to fortify the island’s position as a prime travel destination while providing expanded travel options for both locals and international visitors alike.
Azul Airlines is the largest airline in Brazil in terms of departures and cities served, with approximately 1,000 daily departures to over 150 destinations.
