On November 7, 2024, Curaçao’s red carpet rolled out for a special premiere of ‘Dating My Past’, an international film starring local talent Chanelle de Lau. The premiere, held at The Movies Otrobanda, a local movie theater in the island’s capital, drew both local and international guests, press, and supporters.
Chanelle de Lau is recognized internationally as the First Runner-Up at Miss International 2017 and Fourth Runner-Up at Miss Supranational 2024, in addition to her international fame as Miss Universe Curaçao 2016. With her success in pageantry and modeling, Chanelle has continued to expand her talents, now taking on her third feature film role as Lexie, a relationship therapist revisiting and reflecting on her past romantic relationships.
‘Dating My Past’ is directed by Ricky Burchell and inspired by the book ‘The Power Within, A Woman’s Worth: From Both Sexes’ by Aaron Jordan Jr. Chanelle’s portrayal of Lexie has personal significance for her; despite her public success, acting was not her original path, as she was a shy child. Her journey to the screen began in 2016 with her role as Miss Universe Curaçao, and later, in 2018, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue modeling and enrolled in acting school in North Hollywood.
After the film screening, Chanelle and her fellow cast members hosted a Q&A, sharing insights into the making of the film, behind-the-scenes moments, and the importance of ‘Dating My Past’ for Curaçao’s film industry.
The film made its U.S. premiere on November 16, 2024, at the Premiere 6 Theater in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, marking the next step in Chanelle’s career and expanding Curaçao’s footprint in global cinema.
