Last week, Curaçao’s Minister of Economic Development, Ruisandro Cijntje, along with Dutch Minister Rob Jetten and Dutch State Secretary Alexandra van Huffelen, signed a cooperation agreement via video conference. This agreement focuses on exploring the feasibility of a large-scale hydrogen economy powered by wind energy on Curaçao.
The primary aim of this collaboration is to provide affordable, green energy for the island. Additionally, the Curaçao government will explore the potential for exporting sustainable energy. This initiative involves close cooperation with businesses and knowledge institutions, who were also present at the signing.
This agreement highlights the strength of cross-border collaboration between governments, knowledge institutions, and companies, and follows Curaçao’s signing with the Blue Planet Alliance organization late last year at the COP28 UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai. This is an international organization established in 2020 that intends to get islands and countries around the world to legislatively mandate a commitment to 100% renewable energy by 2045.
These projects and signings represent a bright future for Curaçao, showcasing the island’s commitment to sustainable development and innovation.
