One Million Liters Of Fresh Water Per Day For Agricultural Entrepreneurs In Curaçao!

From 2024 onwards, Xploration Coastline Curaçao is expected to produce one million liters of fresh water from seawater per day for Curaçao’s agricultural sector. The mobile maritime-based platform will also be ready to use in the event of natural disasters in the Kingdom of the Netherlands and, by extension, the rest of the Caribbean.

The Curaçao Council of Ministers, in a decision made on December 7th, welcomes the arrival of Xploration Coastline Curaçao. The Ministries of Economic Development and Health, Environment, and Nature are both eager to support the successful launch of the mobile water purifier. Meanwhile, Aqualectra Multi Utilities, the University of Curaçao, and OceansX have agreed to build the local infrastructure needed to connect the floating installation to the mainland. This concept is an excellent fit with the Curaçao National Development Plan, the Curaçao SDG implementation roadmap, and the food security policy framework that has been established by the Curaçao government.

Dual application of water
Xploration Coastline Curaçao produces both drinking water and agricultural water by desalinating seawater, relying solely on renewable energy. All of the water production and treatment facilities, as well as the energy generators, are built on a floating platform. The advantage of this is that the entire installation can be quickly deployed for humanitarian aid during disasters within the Dutch Kingdom, assuring victims on-site of their urgent need for (drinking) water. The platform will be moored in Curaçao for the majority of the year, contributing to the island’s food security—farmers will be able to irrigate their crops with one million liters of water per day.

This water production installation’s dual application ensures that the investment and maintenance costs are split. This will result in more affordable agricultural water and boost the competitiveness of Curacao’s agricultural entrepreneurs, completing a critical prerequisite for island-bound food security.

Water connects us all
People are vulnerable when there is a scarcity or an abundance of water. As a result, introducing alternative water is a complex social undertaking. OceansX, a mission-driven social enterprise that operates the Xploration Coastline desalination solution, has taken on the task of facilitating this, which makes Xploration Coastline more than just a water producer of 1000 cubic meters (35315 cubic feet) per 24 hours. The mission of Xploration Coastline is to operate a network of floating (autonomous) water production and treatment pontoons that connects local end users and stakeholders. As a first of its kind, Xploration Coastline Curaçao is expected to become an iconic concept that will contribute to greater (climate) resilience throughout the entire region.

Local farmers, residents, representatives of industries, environmental organizations, and landowners are all invited to create a plan for the development of the area surrounding where the platform will be docked during an Xploration Coastline Curaçao BOOST-event next year on May 9th, 10th, and 11th.
