Last week, at Kura Hulanda during the Curaçao Export Week 2024, the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) officially launched the Medical and Wellness Tourism Export Strategy 2024-2028 and introduced the Curaçao Wellness Association. This milestone event marks a significant step towards positioning Curaçao as a regional leader in medical and wellness tourism, providing world-class care as “The Island of Healing.”
Curaçao currently offers unique services such as renowned dolphin therapy programs, state-of-the-art dialysis services, and advanced plastic surgery facilities. The island is also home to the Caribbean (Cancer) Prevention Center and the Red Cross Blood Bank, which provide essential medical services and contribute to groundbreaking research.
The island also boasts a rich selection of spa treatments and traditional healing practices rooted in its history. From the vitamin-rich fruits that once cured the illnesses of seamen to the innovative wellness offerings of today, the island has always been a sanctuary for those seeking rejuvenation and renewal.
The launch of this trajectory is in step with Curaçao’s National Export Strategy (NES), which is Curaçao’s 5-year plan to diversify exports, drive economic development, and increase foreign exchange earnings. This launch also comes as the culmination of plans, policies, and strategies that were set in motion back in 2010, designating the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands as primary markets.
The Curaçao Wellness Association will be the voice of this medical and wellness subsector, represent the subsector’s interests to the government, and lead the implementation of selected activities.
With these measures in place, Curaçao is poised to become a premier destination for medical, cosmetic, and wellness tourism, providing transformative experiences for all who visit.
