Curaçao recently hosted the 28th Annual General Meeting & Conference of the Port Management Association of the Caribbean (PMAC), welcoming 260 delegates from across the region to the Renaissance Hotel for a three-day gathering centered on the future of Caribbean ports.
In his keynote, Humberto de Castro, CEO of Curaçao Ports Authority, emphasized the island’s role as a connector of goods, cultures, and ideas. From smart systems and sustainable development to regional collaboration, the event placed a spotlight on modernization, innovation, and resilience within port management.
A major highlight of the conference was the signing of two memoranda of understanding: one with the London Institute of Business and Technology and another with the Suriname Port Training Institute (SPTI). These agreements signify a commitment to strengthening port training and leadership development throughout the Caribbean. The collaboration with SPTI is particularly aimed at developing a curriculum that supports green innovation and digital transformation in the maritime industry.
PMAC 2025 received wide praise for everything from the seamless organization of the program to the energy in each session. Curaçao stood out as both host and thought leader, facilitating dialogue and setting a new benchmark for regional collaboration in the port sector.
As Curaçao continues to expand its role as a strategic logistics and trade hub, the conference reaffirmed its status as a forward-thinking partner dedicated to progress, sustainability, and shared regional success.
