The Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) announced last week that Azul Airlines will double its flights between Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and Curaçao starting December 9th, increasing to four flights per week. Additionally, Azul is introducing a new route connecting Curaçao to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, providing more travel options for both tourists and locals. The flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Azul first launched the Belo Horizonte to Curaçao route last June with one flight per week. Due to growing demand from Brazil, this frequency was increased to two flights and will now reach four weekly flights. This expansion is a result of the strong relationship between Azul, the Ministry of Economic Development of Curaçao, and the CTB. The success of this collaboration also involves key partners such as Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP), Curaçao Airport Holding (CAH), and the Curaçao Hospitality & Tourism Association (CHATA).
Mr. César Grandolfo, institutional relations manager at Azul, highlighted the rising demand for Curaçao as a desirable vacation destination. He noted that the new connection to Fort Lauderdale offers additional convenience for tourists, allowing them to visit Curaçao and then continue their travels with the same ticket.
Curaçao’s minister of economic development, Mr. Ruisandro Cijntje, expressed his satisfaction with the increased flight frequency, particularly in a year where Curaçao has exceeded its targets for tourist arrivals from Brazil.
The announcement of these new flights coincides with the news that Curaçao Airport has been shortlisted for the Routes World Awards 2024 in the under 5 million passenger movement category. This recognition highlights the airport’s exceptional route development marketing activities. Curaçao International Airport is the only airport from the Caribbean and South American region to be shortlisted, reflecting its significant achievements in passenger traffic, which reached 989,500 in the first six months of 2024, an 8% increase from the previous year.
CAP CEO Jonny Andersen credited the success to the hard work and dedication of all partners involved. This includes airlines and the CTB, CHATA, and CAH.
Azul’s new flights are now available for booking, and the CTB continues to work closely with airlines and other partners to attract more visitors and showcase the beauty of Curaçao.
