The Curaçao Investment & Export Promotion Agency (CINEX) has signed a Collaboration Agreement with CurHydro B.V., a local company specializing in sustainable and hydroponic agriculture. The agreement, dated November 25, 2025, establishes a strategic framework to support investment in CurHydro’s 1.25-hectare solar-powered, climate-smart greenhouse, with the goal of strengthening food security, renewable energy use, job creation, and future export potential in Curaçao.
CurHydro’s greenhouse is already operational, with consistent local production and successful market sales. The company is now preparing for its next growth phase: a large-scale expansion valued at approximately XCG 10 million (approximately USD 5.6 million). This expansion aims to significantly increase production capacity and efficiency and is actively seeking strategic investors to support its development.
Once fully scaled, the project is expected to create 30 to 40 new jobs and deliver year-round production of premium vegetables. The hydroponic system uses substantially less water than traditional agriculture, requires minimal pesticide input, and operates on locally generated solar energy, making it well-suited to Curaçao’s dry climate and sustainability goals.
Food security remains a national priority for Curaçao. As a small island economy, Curaçao currently imports more than 90 percent of its food, while local producers are estimated to supply only 5 to 7 percent of total consumption. Climate-smart agricultural initiatives such as CurHydro play a critical role in reducing dependence on imports, increasing resilience to global supply disruptions, and building a more self-sufficient food system.
Under the agreement, CINEX will support CurHydro by promoting the project to potential investors, facilitating access to applicable fiscal incentives, and providing guidance on regulatory and permitting processes to ensure a smooth expansion. According to Miles Mercera, CEO of CINEX, CurHydro reflects the future direction of agriculture in Curaçao: innovative, efficient, and environmentally responsible. He noted that the partnership aligns with CINEX’s broader mission to support sustainable industries that contribute to food security, export readiness, and long-term economic resilience.
CurHydro’s management welcomed the collaboration, stating that CINEX’s expertise and international network will be essential in attracting strategic investment and positioning Curaçao as a regional reference point for climate-smart agriculture as production scales.
The signing of this agreement marks an important milestone for Curaçao, demonstrating how public-private collaboration can drive sustainable innovation, strengthen food security, and unlock new economic opportunities rooted in green investment and local production.
