Curaçao’s Minister of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning, Charles Cooper, and Curaçao Airport Holding (CAH) Director, Wilhelmus Ignacio, recently signed an agreement to develop the area surrounding Curaçao International Airport. This initiative is set to boost the island’s economy by fostering investment, innovation, and job creation.
Minister Cooper emphasized the agreement’s importance, stating, «This agreement is a crucial milestone in the spatial and economic development of our island. Through this rezoning, we are creating new opportunities for investment, innovation, and job creation. This project will give a major boost to our economy and contribute to a more prosperous Curaçao.»
A key component of the development plan is the preservation of green and historically significant sites, such as Hato Caves and Roi Rincon. These areas will be integrated into the project, ensuring that economic growth aligns with sustainability and cultural heritage.
The collaboration between the Ministry and CAH aims to balance economic growth with sustainability in Curaçao’s long-term urban planning. With this agreement in place, the next steps for development and implementation will soon follow.
This development is part of a broader vision to transform the airport area into a hub that attracts international business and tourism. The project aligns with previous initiatives, such as the establishment of the Curaçao-Multi Commodities Centre Worldwide (C-MCC) Free Trade Zone, which aims to position Curaçao as a gateway for international commodities trading.
As the project progresses, it is expected to enhance the island’s infrastructure, create new economic opportunities, and solidify Curaçao’s position as a key player in the Caribbean’s economic landscape.
