Curaçao Will Join CARICOM As An Associate Member!

Curaçao has been granted associate membership in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), marking a significant milestone for the island nation. The announcement was made by CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett two weeks ago, on June 4th, and follows extensive negotiations between the Curaçao delegation and the CARICOM secretariat.

Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas is scheduled to sign the accession treaty in Grenada on July 3rd. Concurrently, the legal procedures within the Kingdom of the Netherlands are being finalized, with the Kingdom Government expected to endorse the draft treaty.

As the sixth associate member of CARICOM, Curaçao joins a dynamic group of 15 member states and 5 associate members in the region. This membership provides numerous benefits, including participation in regional integration initiatives, boosting economic activities, enhancing regional security measures, collaborating on environmental projects, and promoting socio-cultural development.

This development promises to strengthen Curaçao’s ties within the Caribbean community and open new opportunities for collaboration and growth.
