The construction of the third phase of the Marie Pampoen recreational area has been finalized and will start in early 2022. This was announced by CTB, the Curaçao Tourism Bureau.
CTB explains that the area already has various facilities that are being used well by the public. It is part of a master plan that should eventually lead to more economic activities in the area.
The beautification of the area is intended not only for the residents of Curaçao but also for the tourists that stay in the neighboring hotels. According to CTB, the objective is for both groups to interact.
They state: “The third phase of the project will focus on various recreation and sports facilities, including a beach with palapas and a relaxation area for children and youths, in particular, an outdoor fitness area, a pier, a beach volleyball court, three kiosks, several picnic areas, a public toilet, landscaping, lighting, coastal protection and infrastructure for the supply of water and electricity.”
The coordination of this project is in the hands of the CTB and funding comes from the budget of the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO). The design is by the architectural firm Heren2 Caribbean and the construction agreement was signed by the deputy director of CTB, Hugo Clarinda, and Wendell Bonafacio, the director of Curaçao Road Construction Company (CWM). Curaçao’s minister of economic development, Ruisandro Cijntje, was also present at the signing.
