Curaçao’s Tourism Recovery Is Still Going Strong

The good news keeps rolling in concerning Curaçao’s tourism recovery in 2022. The Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) has reported another stellar month this past May, with 35.813 total stayover visitor arrivals. These numbers constitute a 98% recovery of the pre-pandemic output of stayover arrivals in 2019 — back in May of that year, Curaçao received 36,386 stayover visitors. This achievement is all the more remarkable given that May is traditionally regarded as a quiet month for tourists.

60% of the 35.813 people that arrived on the island came from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany; 15% from Colombia, Brazil, and Suriname; 14% from the United States and Canada; 8% from the Dutch Caribbean islands; and 3% from the rest of the world. On average, over 50% of these visitors stayed in resort hotels.

Aside from stayover tourism, May 2022 was a wonderful month for cruise visitors to Curaçao as well, with a total of 8 cruise ship calls, bringing 28.362 cruise arrivals to the island.

Curaçao’s tourism rebound from the pandemic’s devastation is thus still running strong in the first five months of 2022. With a total of 190.000 visitors recorded, it constitutes a 93% recovery of the arrival numbers over the same period in 2019.
