The Curaçao tourism industry received some outstanding news this past week. This coming June 24th, the Brazilian airline Azul Linhas Aéreas will be launching direct flights to and from Curaçao. These flights will depart from Belo Horizonte International Airport in Belo Horizonte, an industrious city in the state of Minas Gerais.
Azul is Brazil’s largest airline and its expansion to Curaçao comes as part of its additional move to add more flights to US destinations in the same period as well, where it has flight connections to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport from its hubs in the Brazilian cities of Belém, Manaus, Campinas, and soon Recife. The airline will soon add Orlando International Airport to the list of destinations to and from which it operates flights in the US.
Flights to Curaçao will be operated by Azul’s Airbus A320neo aircraft, and this new connection comes as the result of growing demand for Curaçao’s attractions from the Brazilian market. It also results from the efforts and productive cooperation of local players like Curaçao Airport Holding (CAH), Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP), and the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB).
This momentous development comes on the heels of another grand headline stating that there will be a marked increase in the number of flights between Curaçao and Panama starting in the first week of April. These additional flights, in turn, are the result of growing demand for Curaçao from markets in Colombia, Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay, in addition to Brazil. CAP, CAH, and the Curaçao Hospitality & Tourism Association (CHATA) also played pivotal roles in this expansion.
Azul’s new flights will cater to recreational travelers in Curaçao and Brazil and will be the island’s only direct connection to the South American nation. At Azul’s Belo Horizonte hub, passengers will be able to connect with other Azul flights to other local destinations such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Goiânia, and Brasília.
