Haven Curaçao is a new high-end restaurant, lounge, and cocktail bar set to elevate the culinary scene in Otrobanda’s West End building. Inspired by the island’s character, cultural depth, and growing appeal as a global destination, Haven brings together refined dining, striking design, and panoramic views to create a memorable experience for both locals and visitors.
The concept was developed by Remy Awkar, an entrepreneur and consultant with more than 15 years of experience in leadership, food and beverage, and hospitality. After extensive market research and multiple visits to Curaçao, Mr. Awkar saw the island not only as an investment opportunity, but as a place to call home. In early 2024, he connected with the Curaçao Investment & Export Promotion Agency (CINEX) to explore possibilities for establishing his vision on the island.
Haven was conceived as a vibrant and upscale dining concept unlike anything currently on the market. The restaurant offers a creative menu prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients, paired with an elegant interior and one of the most impressive views Curaçao has to offer. The aim is to create an atmosphere that feels both sophisticated and welcoming, where dining becomes an experience rather than just a meal.
Throughout the development process, CINEX played a key role in supporting the project. The agency facilitated connections with property representatives, local suppliers, cargo companies, and service providers, while also assisting with permits and licenses. Through CINEX, Mr. Awkar was able to benefit from Curaçao’s Residence by Investment Permit Program following an investment of over XCG 1 million.
“Haven is more than a place; Haven is a feeling,” says Mr. Awkar. “After many visits to Curaçao and my decision to live here, this project became the realization of a long-held dream. I am grateful for the opportunities Curaçao has given me and look forward to creating more projects that highlight what this island has to offer to the world.”
Miles Mercera, CEO of CINEX, highlights the broader impact of the project, noting that Haven reflects the type of high-quality investment that strengthens Curaçao’s economy and hospitality sector. According to Mercera, visionary entrepreneurs like Mr. Awkar not only contribute capital, but also raise industry standards and bring new creative energy to the island.
Minister of Economic Development Roderick Middelhof also emphasized the importance of investments such as Haven, stating that they demonstrate international confidence in Curaçao’s business climate. Beyond job creation, these projects support urban revitalization, particularly in historic areas like Otrobanda, while exposing the local workforce to higher service standards and international expertise.
With its arrival in the West End, Haven is expected to increase foot traffic, create employment opportunities, and further position Otrobanda as a vibrant cultural and economic hub. As Curaçao’s culinary landscape continues to evolve, Haven stands as a strong example of how vision, investment, and local collaboration can come together to shape the future of dining on the island.
