Curaçao has two Free Economic Zones managed by Curinde. One is located in the harbour and the other one next to the airport.
These Free Economic Zones offer opportunities for sales, warehousing, distribution, assembly, manufacturing as well as certain services. Showrooms and warehouses are readily available and can be leased at competitive prices.
In addition, in the Free Economic Zones there are plots of land that can be leased on a long-term basis for the construction of own customized buildings. Companies operating in a Free Economic Zone are exempt from customs duties and enjoy a reduced corporate income tax rate of 2% on profits earned from sales. Goods sold to the domestic market from the Free Economic Zone, are subject to normal import duties and sales tax.
75% Or more of the economic zone company’s total annual revenue must be generated from export. A maximum of 25% of its yearly revenue may be generated from sales to the domestic market. However, a permit is needed to sell to the domestic market from the economic zone. To operate in the Free Economic Zone, a company needs an economic zone license and a business license.
In the Curaçao Free Economic Zones, the following forms of services are permitted:
· Carrying out maintenance and repair work in the zone to the goods of businesses that operate abroad;
· The execution of maintenance and repair work to machinery and other equipment located abroad with goods stored in the zone;
· Warehousing services.
