Curaçao Opens New Doors in Colombia Through Strategic Barranquilla Mission

In a concrete step toward regional economic integration, CINEX carried out a three-day institutional visit to Barranquilla, Colombia in March, engaging directly with business leaders, industry associations, and academic institutions to lay the groundwork for a stronger bilateral relationship between Colombia and Curaçao.

The mission was led by Paola Olaya, CINEX’s representative in Colombia, and focused on building the kind of partnerships that translate into real investment flows, cross-border business growth, and shared innovation.

Curaçao as a Gateway
At the heart of the visit was a clear proposition: Curaçao is not just a destination, it is a platform. Strategically positioned between Colombia, the wider Caribbean, Europe, and the United States, the island offers Colombian businesses a practical entry point into international markets. CINEX used the Barranquilla meetings to present this case directly to some of the region’s most influential economic players.

Among those engaged were Caribe Exponencial, Fundación Santo Domingo, the Cámara de Comercio de Barranquilla, ANDI, the Atlántico chapter of CAMACOL, Asociación Portuaria Michellmar, and leading voices from the technology, hospitality, and higher education sectors, including the Centro de Conocimiento INCA.

What Was on the Table
The conversations covered a broad range of collaborative opportunities, all oriented toward mutual growth. Key areas included using Curaçao as a strategic export platform for Colombian businesses, promoting bilateral and co-investment initiatives, connecting Curaçao-based entrepreneurs with the Colombian market, and building regional innovation labs in partnership with The Curaçao Innovation HUB.

Academic cooperation was also a priority, with discussions around two-way knowledge transfer programs. Beyond that, the meetings explored investment opportunities in Curaçao’s hospitality and tourism sectors, and how to deepen coordination across logistics, port, and energy infrastructure.

From Conversation to Commitment
The visit did not end with handshakes. Participating institutions agreed to formalize their cooperation through Memoranda of Understanding, creating structured frameworks and joint roadmaps to move from intention to implementation across business, academic, and institutional sectors.

Building Bridges That Last
This mission is part of CINEX’s broader international growth strategy, a deliberate effort to position Curaçao as an active participant in regional economic development rather than a passive beneficiary of it. By identifying the right partners in key markets and establishing the right frameworks for collaboration, CINEX is steadily expanding the island’s reach and relevance on the global stage.
