Courtyard by Marriott Hotel representatives generously poured champagne at its ‘spantenbier’ of the hotel under construction this past Friday. Spantenbier is a variant of the popular Dutch construction tradition of ‘pannenbier’ (topping out), in which a national, regional, or city flag is hung once the highest point of a building is reached during the construction phase. In Curaçao, organizations usually raise either the national flag, a white flag, or some sort of company flag, and plenty of champagne is passed around.
The Courtyard Hotel, located in the Rif region of Curaçao, is expected to receive its first guests in October 2022. The resort will have 152 rooms and suites and will feature a swimming pool, conference room, and restaurant. In addition, guests can enjoy entertainment options at the Megapier Plaza commercial center. The primary shareholders of this multi-million dollar project are Isla Pension Fund, Vidanova Pension Fund, and the Otrobanda Private Foundation. Also contributing are Korpodeko, Maduro & Curiel’s Bank, Guardian Group Life, and Vidanova Bank, which are financing the construction.
